High Speed, Synchronous Legacy Interface Module
(HSL)

The HSL is the gateway for
synchronous non-ATM traffic (i.e. legacy traffic) into the ATM network. The HSL provides
the EIA RS-530 interface, converts the legacy traffic into ATM cells and establishes the
circuit emulation over the ATM network in AAL1 unstructured mode. The HSL supports an
incredible range of data rates from 1 Mbps to 50 Mbps in 8 Kbps increments. The adaptive
clock recovery software makes the HSL highly tolerant of network timing ambiguities. The
HSL occupies one slot in the chassis.
