|
The Excalibur® Multiport Digital Access Product (DAP) is designed to reduce the number of digital lines and DSU/CSUs needed in your network. Point-to-point and multiport/multidrop models are offered.
Point-to-Point Multiplexing
The Excalibur Multiport DAP operates on point-to-point Dataphone Digital Service (DDS) or
Clear Channel 64 Kbps lines with channel rates of 9.6 to 64 Kbps. It can also operate over
customer owned copper wire for short-haul point-to-point limited distance communications.
Each DAP supports up to six ports. The point-to-point multiport DAP operates in a constant
carrier point-to-point mode with an available aggregate data channel bandwidth of 8.4 to
57.6 Kbps.
Multiport/Multidrop Operation
SNMP or Proprietary Management Protocol
Excalibur Multiport DAPs can be fully managed via SNMP (point-to-point only) or via
Milgo's proprietary T7 management protocol. The integral MIB-II compliant SNMP agent
provides a standards-based management interface, which allows you to manage your complete
network via SNMP from a CMS® manager or a generic SNMP manager. The extended MIB includes
all functionality found in T7. The multiport/multidrop model and the analog dial backup
option are not offered with SNMP. Full TELNET client support is included with SNMP.
Custom SNMP Management Application
To simplify management, Milgo offers a custom SNMP management application that runs on the
CMS 400 platform. This application provides an intuitive graphical interface
specifically tailored for the Excalibur DAP. You can use this application to fully
configure the DAP, monitor its performance, view extended network-wide statistics, and
integrate traps.
Multiple Groups of Shared Ports
Designed with built-in port sharing, the units can operate with asynchronous or
synchronous terminals on a port-by-port or shared group basis. Up to three groups of
shared ports can be configured or all six ports can be configured in one shared group.
This feature provides capabilities such as a central unit sending three separate
applications to remote units with three sets of shared ports or one application to remote
units with six ports in one shared group. This feature can significantly reduce your
communication costs by eliminating the need for external modem sharing or port sharing
devices.
Multi-Interface
The Excalibur Multiport DAP provides a V.35 interface connection in addition to the
standard EIA-232-E connection on Port 1. Simply connect the V.35 adapter cable to Port 1
and change a jumper setting on the Multiport printed circuit board.
Dial Backup Options
In the event your digital lines go down, the Excalibur Multiport DAP offers dial backup
options. Whether you choose analog lines, Switched 56, or ISDN backup, this option
can keep your operation up and running. The dial backup connections can be
established automatically or manually.
