|
The Excalibur® Multiport Single-Ended T-1 (SET-1) Digital Access Product (DAP) is designed to reduce the number of digital lines needed in your network. Housed in the high-density Excalibur Card Carrier chassis, central site SET-1 DAPs operate with an internal Excalibur T-1 CSU (Channel Service Unit). Data from up to 24 digital circuits can be transmitted over a single (full or fractional) T-1 link to the Telco, saving up to five times the cost of individual 56/64 Kbps circuits. The Telco demultiplexes the data and distributes it to the remote DAPs over digital data service lines. Point-to-point and multiport/multidrop models are offered.
Point-to-Point Multiplexing
Remote units operate on point-to-point Dataphone Digital Service (DDS) or
Clear Channel 64 Kbps lines with channel rates of 9.6, 19.2, 56, or 64 Kbps. Each DAP
supports up to six ports. The point-to-point multiport SET-1 DAP operates in a constant
carrier point-to-point mode with an available aggregate data channel bandwidth of 8.4 to
57.6 Kbps.
Multiport/Multidrop Operation
The multiport/multidrop SET-1 DAP allows you to run up to six different
protocols over one multidrop digital circuit with no interaction between the ports or
protocols. Milgo supplies a multiport/multidrop DAP that electronically appears as if it
were running on six separate multidrop lines. Using this technology, it is possible to run
six protocols from six different locations over one multidrop circuit.
SNMP or Proprietary Management Protocol
Excalibur Multiport SET-1 DAPs can be fully managed via SNMP
(point-to-point only) or via Milgos proprietary T7 management protocol. The integral
MIB-II compliant SNMP agent provides a standards-based management interface, which allows
you to manage your complete network via SNMP from a CMS® manager or a generic SNMP
manager. The extended MIB includes all functionality found in T7. The multiport/multidrop
feature and the analog dial backup option are not available for SNMP models. Full TELNET
client support is included with SNMP.
Network Management Capability
For those networks that require comprehensive management, testing, and
control features, the Excalibur Multiport SET-1 DAPs can operate with a CMS network
management system. A CMS system provides sophisticated database management, performance
analysis, fault isolation, and network restoral capabilities from a central location.
Multiple Groups of Shared Remotes
Designed with built-in port sharing, the units can operate with
asynchronous or synchronous terminals on a port-by-port or shared group basis. Up to three
groups of shared ports can be configured or all six ports can be configured in one shared
group. This feature provides capabilities such as a central unit sending three separate
applications to remote units with three sets of shared ports or one application to remote
units with six ports in one shared group. This feature can significantly reduce your
communication costs by eliminating the need for external modem sharing or port sharing
devices.
Dial Backup Option
In the event your digital lines go down, the Excalibur Multiport SET-1 DAP
offers dial backup options. Whether you choose analog lines, Switched 56, or ISDN backup,
this option can keep your operation up and running. The dial backup connections can be
established automatically or manually.

| Dial Backup Options | Connections: 2-wire 14.4 or 28.8 Kbps analog, 4-wire
Switched 56 Kbps, or 2-wire Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). 14.4 Kbps analog dial backup operates in Programmable or Permissive mode, supports V.32 or V.32 bis+ (Milgo proprietary mode with non-interruptive secondary channel) format. 28.8 Kbps analog dial backup operates in Programmable or Permissive mode and provides V.34 modem support. Switched 56 dial backup operates at 56 Kbps over MCI's Switched 56 Service, AT&T's Accunet Switched 56 Service, or Sprint's Enhanced Switched 56 Service. ISDN dial backup operates at 56 or 64 Kbps over ISDN Basic Rate service. It complies with all applicable specifications, including National ISDN-1 standard, Northern Telecom Basic Rate Access, and AT&T Basic Rate Access. It can operate with another DAP equipped with Switched 56 dial backup, providing backup to locations where ISDN service is unavailable. |
