| Excalibur® T-1 CSU Channel Service Unit |
|
|
The Excalibur® T-1 Channel Service Unit (CSU) is designed to reduce the number of digital or analog lines needed in your network by transmitting data from up to 24 digital or analog circuits over a single (full or fractional) T-1 link. Occupying a single slot in the Excalibur Card Carrier, the unit minimizes space requirements and eliminates the need for external equipment. Two models are offered: one provides a single network interface, the other provides three.
Operating Flexibility
The T-1 CSU interfaces with the Excalibur Single-Ended T-1 (SET-1) Digital
Access Product (DAP) via two independent TDM buses. From the Excalibur Card Carrier
control panel or from a CMS® network management system console, DS0 channels can be
assigned to a particular T-1 link. This feature allows you to quickly and easily reroute
data to bypass a failed T-1 link.
Drop and insert capability at the DS0 level allows you to connect a T-1 PBX or other T-1 device with underutilized bandwidth to the T-1 CSU. This feature eliminates the need for a separate T-1 circuit to support the PBX voice application or other data applications.
AT&T ASDS Compatibility
The T-1 CSU is compatible with AT&T Publication 62411 for both SF
(Super Frame) and ESF (Extended Super Frame) formats. The T-1 CSU is DACS compatible,
supports all ESF diagnostics per AT&T 54016 and ANSI T1.403, and supports AMI
(Alternate Mark Inversion) or B8ZS (Bipolar with Eight Zero Substitution) line codes.
Performance Monitoring
The T-1 CSU continuously monitors each in-service T-1 line for a complete
set of logic and format parameters including:
Errored Seconds
Bipolar violations
CRC-6 errors
Loss of frame count
Frame bit errors
Controlled frame slips
The Excalibur T-1 CSU features three separate sets of 24-hour registers for each T-1 line: user, Telco, and network. Each set of registers monitors line statistics for the current 15-minute interval and for the last 24 hours. ESF diagnostic information is available and can be reset from the control panel or the CMS system console. This feature provides T-1 circuit performance monitoring without interrupting normal operation.
Alarm Reporting
A variety of alarm conditions are reported and displayed on the control
panel or the CMS system console. Alarms are also recorded in the T-1 CSU or the CMS system
for later inspection, providing efficient problem tracking capabilities. The time interval
before a T-1 line alarm is reported is user-selectable and each CSU and T-1 line alarm may
be independently enabled or disabled.
