CMSâ HeadCount Pro starts by discovering your network, systematically polling address ranges with ICMP Ping. Multiple polls are sent in parallel for high performance, yet limited to minimize network traffic.

If the discovered devices support SNMP, CMSâ HeadCount Pro goes further. It assigns the device its name from the MIB 2 system group, and saves its unique object identifier. It checks to see if the device supports Telnet and web management and saves these attributes.

Finally, if the discovered device knows of other nearby addresses, CMSâ HeadCount Pro walks its IP cache to discover new devices more quickly than blind polling would allow.

Comprehensive Network Health Monitoring

CMSâ HeadCount Pro polls your network thoroughly, again with careful parallel Pings and SNMP, to identify failing devices quickly.

In addition to mere device responsiveness, CMSâ HeadCount Pro also checks for:

• Ping delays that exceed your specified response time threshold
• Interfaces that have gone down or returned to service
• Apparent reboots

Instant Notification Of Critical Network Events

CMSâ HeadCount Pro lets you know immediately about outages, response time problems, interface state changes, and apparent reboots. You can instruct it to notify you in many ways:

• Email to one or more recipients
• SNMP traps to one or more recipients

Convenient Diagnostics, Built Right In

The main screen of CMSâ HeadCount Pro shows all of your network devices, with nonresponsive devices in red. You can sort the list easily by clicking on any column header.

Right-click on any device for a popup menu of diagnostic options, including:

• Ping the device to verify responsiveness
• Launch Telnet to connect to that device
• Launch your default web browser to manage that device
• Display the device attributes from the MIB 2 system group
• Display the status of all interfaces on the device
• Display all frame relay DLCI's and their statistics, if the device supports them

Concise And Readable Performance Statistics

CMSâ HeadCount Pro maintains response time statistics when it polls your devices. You can analyze these statistics in a variety of ways:

• As a table showing percent availability, counts, and averages for each device
• As a graph showing individual response time over time for a given device
• As data exported in comma-separated format to your favorite analysis tool

CMSâ HeadCount Pro also maintains port availability statistics when it watches interfaces go down and up. You can view this information:
